Objectives

Fashion and design are increasingly focusing their efforts on addressing crucial contemporary issues such as sustainability, digital transformation, and social inclusion.
The impact of these disciplines on the world around us is significant; for this reason, it is more necessary than ever to enhance their potential in support of the twin transition and new business models.

Although the sector shows growing awareness of these issues, addressing these challenges concretely is complex due to established and often unsustainable practices, such as those found in the fast fashion supply chain. Overcoming these obstacles requires new educational systems and the development of targeted skills, aligned with market needs and the growing demand for sustainable fashion.

In this context, strengthening capacities within Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Continuing Vocational Education and Training (C-VET) in EU countries and in the Southern Mediterranean is essential to promote digital skills, interdisciplinary thinking, and the practical application of sustainable practices.

The European Union supports sustainability in fashion through numerous initiatives, and OpenFashion contributes to this effort with an innovative approach: integrating new technologies—such as 3D prototyping and co-design—and the open-business approach—which promotes transparency, collaboration, and shared innovation—into the fashion industry, creating connections between VET providers in Europe and those in Tunisia and Morocco.

The open model is based on three pillars: accessibility, knowledge sharing, and co-creation. In this context, companies, educators, and designers collaborate instead of operating in isolation.

OpenFashion promotes shared resources, open-source solutions, and collaborative ecosystems, challenging traditional proprietary approaches and creating an ideal environment to stimulate innovation and sustainability. The project involves 8 partners: 4 European (Italy, Spain, Greece) and 4 non-European, from Morocco and Tunisia..
