From launch to final outcomes: MOOC and SAT now available to strengthen the digital transition of TSO and MSMEs
Following its Final Project Meeting held in Patras on 3–4 December 2025, DIGITopen presents the latest achievements of its work to support the digital transformation of Third Sector organizations and MSMEs across Europe.
DIGITopen is a European initiative funded by the Erasmus+ Programme and launched in November 2023, running until February 2026. The project addresses the digital skills gap affecting many small organizations (MSMEs) and VET providers by offering accessible training resources, practical tools, and guidance to foster sustainable and inclusive digital practices through open-source solutions. The initiative brings together six partners from across the EU:
- Chambre de Commerce Italienne pour la France de Marseille (France)
• BASE3 Società Cooperativa (Italy)
• Italian Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona (Spain)
• FOAAL Consulting (Estonia)
• Danmar Computers (Poland)
• University of Patras (Greece)
Partners meet in Patras for the final meeting
The project’s Final Meeting marked a key moment to consolidate the results achieved throughout DIGITopen’s implementation. During the two-day gathering, partners reviewed progress, finalised outputs, and coordinated the last steps needed to ensure sustainability beyond the project’s lifetime.
Discussions focused on WP4, including the analysis of feedback on the first version of the SAT and the development of its second version, as well as refinement of the Guidelines for digital transition through open source. Additional sessions addressed dissemination, reporting, financial matters, and long-term impact strategies.
As part of this work, DIGITopen now makes available the MOOC and the SAT, two key resources designed to strengthen the digital capacity of TSOs and MSMEs and support their transition to open-source approaches.
DigitOopen MOOC
The first of these is the project’s free and open-access MOOC, available at https://elearning.digitopen.eu/.
The course is entirely free of charge and open to everyone, and participants can start learning simply by creating a personal account on the platform.
The MOOC provides a fully self-paced learning experience and is available in multiple languages to ensure broad accessibility. Its modules offer practical training in management, communication, digital security, and the use of open-source technologies tailored to the needs of small organizations. The course also serves as a structured resource that VET providers can adapt and integrate into their own training programmes.
Self-Assessment Tool (SAT)
DIGITopen has also completed the testing phase of its Self-Assessment Tool (SAT), designed to help organizations evaluate their current level of digital maturity and identify priority areas for improvement.
The SAT assesses key dimensions such as digital readiness, capacity, open-source adoption, cybersecurity, data management, communication, and administrative processes. The testing process ensured that the tool is practical, relevant, and aligned with the real operational needs of small organizations and training providers.
The SAT is now fully available for organizations and MSMEs wishing to assess and strengthen their digital capacity through open-source approaches. It can be accessed at: https://opendigit-d8c909.gitlab.io/
DIGITopen warmly thanks all organizations, professionals, and participants who took part in the piloting activities and followed the project throughout its implementation. Their engagement has been essential to ensuring that the final tools are reliable, practical, and aligned with real needs. We now invite everyone to explore the MOOC and try the SAT to advance or strengthen their digital transition journey
